I was really looking forward to letting my hair down at Hertford’s Oktoberfest this year, and it didn’t disappoint! It was exactly what I needed to step out of my daily routine and enjoy myself. We booked a private table, mainly because my anxiety wouldn’t handle the hustle and bustle of being too close to a crowd, and it was the perfect solution. I had a lovely group with me: my husband, my father-in-law, a close friend from work, my brother, my husband’s dear friend, and even my mum, who 100% deserved a break after looking after Dad, who’s been under the weather with that nasty Covid making its rounds again. 😣
A Night of Laughter and New Friends
The night was everything I’d hoped for. I laughed, danced, and made a bunch of new friends—although in my not-so-sober state, I immediately forgot all their names (typical for me!). But the best part was that I felt young and free again. It’s easy to get so caught up in family, work, and responsibilities that you forget who you are. This night was a reminder that I’m not just here to serve others; I need to take care of myself too.

The Importance of Well-being
Moments like these are important for our well-being. It’s not just about having a good time, but about remembering that we all need time to recharge. Whether it’s dancing at a festival, spending time with friends, or simply doing something that makes you feel alive, self-care is essential for a healthy mind and body. We can’t pour from an empty cup, after all.
For me, Hertford Oktoberfest was more than just a fun night out—it was a moment to reconnect with myself, to feel joy in the moment, and to remind myself that it’s okay to let loose and have fun. I danced the night away with my brother, husband, mum, and friends, and it felt like pure magic. Now, I’m hoping I can keep pushing through my anxiety and allow myself to do more of this in the future.
Looking Forward to More
I’m so grateful for this experience, and I hope to make more memories like this. Life isn’t just about work and taking care of others—it’s about living. And events like this help remind me of that.
Here’s to more nights of laughter, dancing, and living life to the fullest! 🥳
